Crime Cinema #2 - Basil Rathbone's Sherlock Holmes

Cine-Lit finally gets around to continuing its look at Crime Cinema in all its many forms. This time we are taking a look at the scourge of the underworld, the champion of deduction Sherlock Holmes. We are focusing on the run of 14 films made between 1939 - 1946 featuring Basil Rathbone as the Great Detective and Nigel Bruce as Dr John Watson. From direct adaptations to somewhat loose interpretations, from the late 1800s setting to fighting the Nazis, these Holmes mysteries encompass a lot of what we now come to regard as classic Sherlock Holmes.
