133. Jamaica’s Greatest Export (with Bob Santelli)

Bob Santelli, the Founding Executive Director of the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles and a noted blues and rock historian takes us on a journey of understanding the musical genre of Reggae that originated in Jamaica in the 1960s. Its popularity quickly spread around the world, in large part due to Bob Marley. In this episode of BIC Talks, Bob Santelli traces the roots of this genre, its musical characteristics, its key themes and messages including socio-political criticism, and its resonance around the world.

This episode is an extract from a BIC streams session that took place virtually on the 2nd of July, 2021 a day after international Reggae day was celebrated worldwide. This talk is part of the series on “music from around the world” in collaboration with the Indian Music Experience Museum.
