Juan Leon Laureles

Episode 89 Juan Leon Laureles

In May, 1996, 30 year-old Juan Leon Laureles did not show up for the Midnight shift at the Kroger's market he worked at, and was quickly was found dead in Brown County, TX. Leon, as his friends and family called him, was shot in the head execution style. Feet away, his car had been set on fire. Everyone that knew Leon was shocked and saddened, unable to think of anyone who would want the loving, and kind family man dead. Leon, a gay man, had felt the need to keep his sexuality to himself in the Conservative area of West Texas where he lived, and theories about his murder range from him being murdered because he was gay, to being killed to silence him from talking about something he knew or had witnessed. 25 years later, his case remains unsolved. In this episode, Leon's Niece and close friend, Arlene, discusses how painful and frustrating the last 25 years have been without Leon, and without answers.
