Hillsboro School District Weekly Hot News, December 5, 2022 - Superintendent Scott retiring, Airplane donation for O-ACE students

At the November 15th Board meeting, Superintendent Mike Scott announced he would be retiring at the end of this school year. It was the news we knew would come someday, but secretly - and selfishly! - hoped we could avoid. When he completes his employment at the end of June 2023, Scott will have served in the Oregon public school system for thirty-six years as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. The fourteen years he has spent in his current role make Scott one of the longest-serving and most respected superintendents in Oregon.

Our Featured Event is a plane donation that will benefit students in our Oregon Aerospace Careers for Everyone - or “O-ACE” - program. On Friday, November 18th O-ACE students participated in an event celebrating Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air’s donation of a Bombardier DHC-8-402Q airplane to the PCC Foundation. PCC is a major partner that helped develop the O-ACE program, and because the plane will be housed at the Hillsboro Airport, O-ACE students will be able to interact with it regularly. O-ACE instructor Sheri Brownlie remarked that it will be an amazing opportunity for her students. The donation was made possible by a collaborative effort between the airline, Oregon Air Show, Oregon Air Show Charitable Foundation, PCC Foundation, and the Port of Portland.
