Heart Disease and You - Episode 88

On this episode of Living Beyond 120, Dr. Jeff Gladden and Dr. Mark Young discuss the heart disease. They kick of the show revealing that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States for males and females – regardless of race or ethnicity.  They continue with the fact that one person dies from heart disease related illness every 36 seconds – that’s 650,000 American deaths every year.  Of the top five causes of death in the United States, heart disease makes up 25% of the fatalities every year. Next, Dr. Gladden and Dr. Young go on to cover the comorbidities of heart disease, such as obesity, high cholesterol, arterial sclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and high sugar intake. Finally, they go on to discuss how simple steps can be taken to decrease the chances of heart disease:  exercise, losing weight, decreasing sugar intake and, depending on genetics, decreasing salt intake.
