Police in Ottawa are searching for a suspect in Wednesday’s downtown shooting, which left one person dead and three seriously wounded. One of the victims is a 15-year-old boy. In Alabama, the second trial of Colby Lewis began on Monday. Lewis is facing burglary and rape charges for a 2016 gun-point attack on a University of Alabama student, which he was linked to through DNA evidence. He was first put on trial in 2019, but a mistrial was declared in September, after one of the jurors refused to participate in the deliberations. Finally, in Toronto, former pastor, Philip Grandine, was sentenced to 15 years for the 2011 manslaughter of his wife, Karissa, who was 20 weeks pregnant at the time of her death. The judge found that Grandine had been sneaking anti-anxiety medications into the victim’s food, leading her to drown in a bathtub. Grandine was found guilty of manslaughter by a jury in his first trial, in 2014. However, that verdict was set aside on appeal.
