Episode 135 - Author James Withey Shares His Story With OCD, Depression & Other Mental Health Challenges

Today I interview James Withey.

James is an author with lived experience of anxiety, OCD, depression, anorexia and PTSD. His best selling book 'How to Tell Depression to Piss Off: 40 Ways to Get Your Life Back'' was published by Little Brown in May 2020 in paperback, e-book and audio book. 

The follow up book, 'How to Tell Anxiety to Sod Off: 40 Ways to Get Your Life Back ' also published by Little, Brown is due out in January 2022.

He is the founder of The Recovery Letters project which publishes letters from people recovering from depression, addressed to people experiencing it. www.therecoveryletters.com. The Recovery Letters book was published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers (Hachette) in July 2017.

 

The book was selected for World Book Night 2018 and as a Reading Well title in the same year. Cosmopolitan magazine named The Recovery Letters as 'One of the 12 mental health books everyone should read'.

The sequel to The Recovery Letters book, 'What I Do to Get Through: How to Run, Swim, Cycle, Sew, or Sing Your Way Through Depression' was published by Jessica Kingsley in Feb 2021. 

His fifth book, 'How to Get to Grips with Grief: 40 Ways to Manage the Unmanageable', will be published by Little, Brown in July 2022. His books have been published in seven languages across the world. 

James lives in Hove, East Sussex in the UK with his husband and emotionally damaged rescue cat. He writes and speaks about depression, anxiety, grief, mental health and mental illness.
