Making the Move to Executive Leadership

We are tackling another listener question. Megan asked us about making the move into executive leadership. Jody and I are unpacking how to position yourself, the necessary characteristics, and what will set you apart. In this episode, we give practical advice for making it to the “next” level. Did you know leaders have a shortlist? Today, we are explaining how to make sure you are on it. A leader recognizes the difference between supporting and directing and will maximize their team by utilizing both approaches. Building influence starts long before you take up a leadership role; and knowing the part it plays in advancement is crucial. As your responsibility grows, your trust in other’s ability to do their jobs must increase as well. When you boil it down, being an executive leader should not be the goal. Find a job you love, work at building your competencies, and take on new challenges. Organizations need all levels of employees. Find your seat on the bus, the one that you love and thrive in. If that leads to an executive level of leadership, you will be glad you invested in your competencies and influence along the way.
