BODY LAND: Guided Meditations to Relax, Recharge, and Self-Regulate

Body Land is a collection of guided meditations that are accessible, experiential, and imaginative. These creative visualizations are informed by Eastern Medicine, Ecofeminism, Surrealist Art, and Somatic Therapies for the treatment of trauma. These creative visualizations help you feel more grounded, relaxed, and restored, and shift to a more positive frame of mind. Listen when you are quiet and still — and follow along in your body.

Creator and host Liz Asch Greenhill is an acupuncturist, writer, artist, and Oregon licensed Psilocybin Facilitator who has used these forms of visualization (playfully called Metaphor Medicine) in her clinic for over fifteen years, and watched patients transform on the table when this type of somatic storytelling is integrated in a session. She designed Body Land to be a free resource that gives you the effects of an acupuncture treatment without the needles. Drawing on the tradition of ‘qi cultivation’ from Chinese Medicine and the literary art of highly sensory, lyric writing, these guided listening experiences teach you that you can use the superpowers of your imagination to change the way you feel.

In an anxiety state we tell ourselves stories that aren't true, stories that are filled with hypothetical pain, chaos, and scenarios of misfortune and failure. Anxiety is the imagination gone rogue. The idea behind Body Land is that we can repurpose our brilliant and wild imaginations for the opposite effect: to reinforce sensations of safety and harmony, nurturing our sense of belonging, awareness, intuition, and inner peace. These small experiences are not meant to be curative solutions for anxiety but rather a helpful auxilliary tool in managing it. They offer fleeting micro-antidotes to help your body remember what the opposite of anxiety feels like and to embrace and embody that.

Body Land can help you prepare for a psychedelic journey, or help you get into a creative flow state, or assist you with the embodiment aspects of somatic therapy. They can be listened to before bed, after a yoga class, or on public transit. They can be enjoyed alone or in a group.

The time frame of each episode is listed in the title so that you can plan for how long your meditation will take. It’s always best to leave some extra time for afterwards so you can linger a bit longer in a spacey, calmed, or sleepy state.

Body Land Metaphor Medicine is currently 5 seasons, each with a different theme. Listen a la carte to a title that resonates with you.

Season One (2019) is focused on art and image and it comes with an Art Prescription linked in the show notes (we call this the Art Rx) referencing visual artists who work with imagery that appeared in the meditation or is similar to it.

Season Two (2020-2021) started around the time of the pandemic so it focuses on Immunity and Anxiety.

Season Three (2021-2022) is all quick meditations, 7-12 minutes because sometimes we don’t have time to sink into a deep or lengthy one.

Season Four (2022-25) is focused on Insomnia because a lot of us are seeking support and tools to help us fall asleep and stay asleep.

Season Five (2024) is for Spanish speakers. Cuerpo Tierra is Body Land en Espanol! With guest translator and voice Udom Linthavong.

Each visualization is designed to help you feel more safe and comfortable in your own skin. Listen to these visualizations with your eyes closed and let the imagery sink in to your bones. Let yourself space out, travel to the in-between, or fall asleep. The images that appear in your mind's eye are yours to keep. Imagine them floating around inside you like holograms in outer space. You can call on them whenever you need. Your body will remember.

BODY LAND is produced by Night Sky Acupuncture + Ideaphoria.
