For Kobe

Originally we had thought of doing a Pro Bowl/Superbowl episode. Given the death of Kobe Bryant and eight others, we decided to switch it up and dedicate this episode to Kobe. We had no notes and nothing here was scripted, just raw unadulterated emotion coming from both of us. Kobe, even though he never played for a Philadelphia sports team, we considered him family. We clumped him with other Philadelphia sports legends; Brian Dawkins, Julius Erving, Donovan Mcnabb, Joe Frazier, Chuck Bednarik, Wilt Chamberlain, Ron Jaworski, and Randall Cunningham among others. It hit the city of Philadelphia and Kobe fans alike immensely hard. It was shocking. It's a harsh reminder just how fragile life is and how quickly someone can leave this world. Kobe did amazing things as a player and was the Michael Jordan of this generation that missed out on watching Jordan in his early years. You could consider that Kobe was one of the biggest reasons that the NBA recovered after Jordan retired. His reach was far and wide. Controversial, possibly, but you can't deny how hard Kobe worked, and how he completely switched himself up after basketball and became a mentor to so many, and tried to become the best father and husband he could be. That's something anyone can respect. To Vanessa Bryant and all the families affected, we are so very sorry. We are praying for you all in this terrible time. God Bless. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/birdsoverboys-podcast/message
