Ep.239 - Hip-Hop Is 50 Years Old

In a week where:

  1. Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan is sentenced to three years in jail.
  2. At least 30 die & over 100 injured after train derails in Pakistan.
  3. Niger goes into limbo as they expect foreign intervention after an internal coup.
  4. First of Bibby Stockholm barge prisoners taken onboard.
  5. DJ Casper - "Cha-cha Slide" pioneer - dies aged 58.

In Media: (6:02) The recent death of artist & activist Sinead O'Connor prompted every publication that spent decades on demonising her to instead gass her up upon her death, which sets a platform to talk about how the press abuses women.

In the first of three Hip-Hop segments: (18:24) Tory Lanez is going to jail for 10 years for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Which means there's a whole lot of "leaders" that need to vocally apologise to Meg.

In the 2nd Hip-Hop segment: (34:02) The term "Knowledge of Self" is one that Hip-Hop as a whole has embraced, which begs detailing how it went from an Islamic pillar to Hip-Hop slogan.

Lastly, (45:51) with Hip-Hop turning 50 on Friday, I thought I would freestyle some thoughts as celebrations happen across the globe. Feel free to also read my essay that I wrote in January.
