She has served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, and Army National Guard for more than 23 years. She served in Afghanistan in for a combined 31 months with roles including mission planning for resupply convoys to remote combat outposts in eastern Afghanistan and working directly with the Afghan National Army. As a civilian, she has created regional and citywide logistics plans and programs for NYC’s Office of Emergency Management. Her experiences following her third tour of duty led her to found the NYC Veterans Alliance. Kristen continues to serve in the US Army Reserves and on the Board of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA). She also teaches literature and writing as an adjunct professor and has been featured in The New York Times, New York Post, Daily Beast, CNN, MSNBC, NPR and more.
