In 2015, Narendra Modi government launched 'Make in India' scheme aiming to increase the productivity of the local manufacturing sector and thereby increasing its contribution to the GDP. While the scheme did not get any any conclusive results for the sector, in 2020 the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' narrative was introduced at the time of a declining economy and in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.
