Omar Gonzalez and Angus McNab join Footy Talks Live

With Terry Dunfield (‘looking like a French painter’) subbing in for Steven Caldwell, the gang began by discussing the issues surrounding any potential restart of the league. Safety, locations and logistics are all high on the list of concerns for players and fans alike. Turning back the clock almost 20 seasons, KJ quizzed Terry on his EPL debut for Manchester City - lining up against a Chelsea team literally s-t-a-c-k-e-d with talent: ‘At half time it was kind of messed up - I had to pick up Desailly on set pieces!’ In a week that saw the first Canadian Premier League player sold to a top flight European team, Agnus McNaab of York9 FC was on hand to talk about what the high profile sale of Emilio Estevez means for the CPL - ‘We are open for business. Pick up the phone!’  WIth players finally returning to the training ground, TFC’s Omar Gonzalez spoke about the surreal experience of maintaining social distancing guidelines during practice: ‘you're not able to go on the building. You walk straight to pitch and wave to the coach from afar.’ Gonzalez echoed many players by voicing an eagerness to return to competitive games: ‘We have to make sure players are safe but everyone’s looking forward to playing competitively - playing for something.’   With the documentary series The Last Dance captivating the sporting world’s attention KJ asked Gonzalez if you can be both a great leader and a nice person, and as someone who’s played alongside genuine serial winners, Gonzalez’s replied was measured: ‘Everyone leads in a different way but in the heat of the money it gets intense. Beckham, Robbie Kean, Landon - they want to win at all costs.’ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
