Congratulations to the 29 staff members who were nominated for 2021 Crystal Apple Awards! Now in its 16th year, the Crystal Apple Awards are presented by the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce to honor and highlight excellence in education. Nominations can be made of any staff member - licensed, classified, or administrator - who has gone above and beyond to support students, foster a love of lifelong learning, and prepare them for a successful future. Each nominee is surprised with a reveal event at their school or office, given a nomination certificate, and a commemorative apple-shaped pin. Crystal Apple awards are then given to nine or ten of the nominees, as determined by an independent evaluation process. Typically, those awards are handed out in person at the Crystal Apple Awards dinner, but last year had to be awarded virtually because of COVID. With Washington County moving back into the “Lower Risk” category, thanks to high rates of vaccination and declining case numbers, the Chamber is planning to hold the dinner in person at the Venetian in downtown Hillsboro on Thursday, June 17th. Attendance will be limited in accordance with capacity maximums set forth by the Governor’s Sector Risk Level Guidance.
