On this episode VSC Education Coordinator Emilie Mitchell sat down with Valencia College’s Assistant Director in Equal Opportunity Dr. Trisha Whitmire and VSC Advocate and Crisis Counselor Orialis Sosa to talk about Dr. Whitmire’s research on stalking, cyberstalking, what we can do to help prevent it, and how we can support a loved one. Dr. Trisha Whitmire currently works as an Assistant Director in Equal Opportunity at Valencia College and resends to allegations of discrimination, harassment, and related misconduct, including interpersonal violence, sexual assault, and stalking and facilitates trainings for faculty, staff, and students on these topics. She recently graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Ph.D. in Sociology with a focus on crime and deviant behavior. Orialis Sosa is a bilingual Crisis Counselor and Victim Advocate at the VSC and is currently pursuing her license in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in the state of Florida. Prialis has developed and implemented a DBT Skills Group at VSC to help victims / survivors with mindfulness and emotion regulation skills. She uses a trauma-focused lens and is passionate about fostering growth and healing through self-reflection, self-forgiveness, and self-acceptance.
