Episode 11 - The Footy Show begins

On the Sunday of Round 3 of the 1993 AFL season, Channel Nine quietly slipped a new TV show into its schedule – the not so creatively titled ‘The Footy Show’. Little did we know it was to set off a chain of events that would lead to the media explosion around AFL that has gathered momentum over the ensuing 25 years. Suddenly Channel Seven had a competitor and it effectively doubled the amount of non-match TV programs about footy. Harvey Silver was charged with putting together the original Sunday morning Footy Show and its success through 1993 sparked a TV war that would last more than a decade. A hungry footy public lapped up this new marriage of TV, footy and entertainment. Harvey joins us to discuss the Greatest Season That Was: 1993.   The Greatest Season That Was: 93 documents our contention that in 1993, footy was never better. Hosted by Adam Collins, Dan Brettig and Shannon Gill, this series is an in-depth exploration of one amazing season.  The Greatest Season That Was: 93 is produced by Jay Mueller and edited by Thom Lion.
