In this book, and conversation, Helen Yaffe explores modern Cuba, illustrates the immense difficulties faced by a blocaded Cuba after the fall of the Soviet Union and during their Special Period, highlights Cuba's democracy and its amazing achievements against all odds, and argues that recent reforms in Cuba are about surivivng while maintaining a commitment to socialism and internationalism, not about the restoration of capitalism.
