Episode 34 - The Thirty-Fourth One... and Tim Frost
Wendi and Dfernando's thirty-fourth episode is speaker, musician, author, husband/father and award-winning filmmaker Tim Frost. Along with every mention above, Tim Frost is also an author of hope from firsthand experiences of survival. He emits a positive and light-hearted energy when he speaks to a large crowd or in a one-on-one conversation. You would never know as a young boy growing up in tiny towns of East Texas, he was abused, neglected, became dependant on drugs and believed he had no purpose on this earth. As a kid Tim found an outlet in creating stories and music. Through these, his imagination and humor kept him optimistic and hopeful even when life became almost unbearable. His life stories are full of a boy’s heartache, sprinkled with laughter and sealed with hope. He’s been a drug-dealer, worship leader, hip-hop producer, local business entrepreneur, and short film composer. A few years ago, after visiting his counselor, Tim began writing down his story beginning with his first memory at the age of three in a dirty trailer house where many unspeakables happened. These are the memories that had been buried deep and purposely, because no one wants to remember, especially tell, anyone about being abused. But slowly, as he began to write, there came the light. He was giving voice to the silenced pain, hidden secrets, and dark memories and he started to change. He shared a few pages of his journal with his wife DeAnda and she, just like many others would soon begin to say: you need to write a book! In his memoir THE FAMILY PORTRAIT, Tim not only candidly tells of how he fumbles into fatherhood, but he authentically reveals how forgiveness and vulnerability lead to a life full of hope. So what began and was even completed solely for Tim’s personal healing, for readers THE FAMILY PORTRAIT will surprisingly make you laugh, inspire hope, and encourage dreams. A few months into the global COVID 19 shutdown, on July 21, 2020, Reddit posted an article on Odin and his childhood friend Jordan and their high school graduation after beating all the odds put against them since birth. The articlewent viral and instantly their story was being covered globally by major news outlets from CBS, NBC, FOX, MSN to the UK’s Metro. Overnight, the Frost family was embraced by thousands across the globe which prompted Timto begin sharing on social media the 1-minute video montages he had been making daily documenting each day of the Frost family during the pandemic. After the suggestion from a friend, he submitted a compilation short film of these daily montage videos to film festivals. The short documentarytitled IT’S A GOOD DAY soon won the WCTE PBS Downtown Film Festival-Tennessee - BEST SHORT DOCUMENTARY. Quickly the short film was winning other film festivals like Buzz Vicious Film Festival-Brazil-BEST INSPIRATIONAL FILM along with 9 Film Fest-Bangkok Thailand-Official Selection for Best of the Fest and Reel East Texas Film Festival-Official Selection for Best in Texas. Today, Tim resides in a little Texas town with his dream-inspiringwife of 20 years DeAnda and their special needs son Odin, who is just as quirky and full of adventure as his dad. They all play music together, hope big together and try to live every day more courageously than the one before.
