Ep. 19 - Rewarding Your Dog - How to do it right
What does your dog work for? Is praise enough? What about toys and treats? Which one should you choose? In today's episode we dig into some of the complexity of the dog and why I believe it is a disservice to the dog to over simplify their responses to simple drives. The dog is the only creature that bonds to mankind. The dog does need a reward to maintain its motivation to work. Many use treats to toys to reward: - Why I don't think that is the best way to motivate a protection dog.Using the bond and mutual respect to motivate work - Why do you spend time with your friends? Why do you help them fix their house or car? - Deeper motivations exist than money and food - Dog is a complex creature, stop trying to over simplifyBest way to motivate the dog is to develop a bond, give the dog respect while demanding it in return, and let the dog know when they do a good job, praise.
