Kumu Moments: Admission Advice From Chaminade University VP

Roberta Espinoza refers to them as Pivotal Moments. In Hawaii, they are known as Kumu Moments. What are they? Mini interventions. When an adult has a conversation with a teen and plants the seed of college, career, and future. When you look back on your life, somewhere along the way someone said something, introduced you to an idea, or offered encouragement for you to pursue something you did not dare dream of before s/he planted that seed. Children are not born with the intuitive knowledge and belief that they will attend college. It is the us, parents, mentors, educators who offer children everywhere that they CAN and WILL attend, if that is their desire. Today, our Guest, Ed Devine shares so many KuMu moments. With over 20 years in College Admissions, Ed has worked for Hawaii Pacific University, Loyola Chicago, most recently at Lafayette College, before being named the Vice President of Enrollment at Chaminade University in Honolulu.
