LIAM 099 – Leadership is About Leading, not Managing!
Leadership is not the same as management. Management is making sure people do what they are supposed to do. Leadership is about casting vision, coaching, supporting, nurturing, your team. Leadership is about setting a standard and personal example. Leadership is about being what you want to see in other people. It is setting the example, creating the vision, motivating, nurturing, training. Leaders are not responsible for the numbers. They are responsible for the people who are responsible for the numbers. It is the job of the leader to make sure the people are supported, trained, have the things they need to get their jobs done. Leadership is like coaching. The leader isn't necessarily the quarterback. The leader coaches the quarterback and the other players Leadership is like conducting a symphony. The leader doesn't play the instruments. He/She sets the pace, the mood, and gets everyone to play their part to create beautiful music. Leadership is about leading--being out in front, setting the example. You cannot expect from others what you are not doing yourself. If you come in late, you can't expect others to not do the same. People will do as you do, not as you say. If you are grumpy, reactionary, gossip, and have a pessimistic attitude, you can expect those around you to be the same.
