Welcome to Lafayette, TN! Named in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, the town was founded in 1843 as the county seat of the newly formed Macon County. Macon County was the birthplace of JL Turner and Cal Turner, Sr, the owners of JL Turner and Son, Inc. These stores ultimately transformed into what we know as Dollar General.
