28: On migration, climate change and The Gun Island, with Amitav Ghosh

In this episode, Sandip is joined by one of India’s leading contemporary writers in English, Amitav Ghosh. Ghosh won the Jnanpith Award last year for “outstanding contribution towards literature”, becoming the first Indian writer in English to receive this honour. Now out with his latest novel, The Gun Island, he sits down with our host to talk about the phenomenon of migration, why the idea of cosmopolitanism needs to change, the lack of talk around climate change in novels, and the kind of literature which will in the future be castigated as crime.
