In this lecture Ustaadh starts a series of lectures on The Principles in the Purification of the Soul. The first principle is at-Tawheed, our main objective. Tawheed sustains the body and nurtures it. We must purify our souls here in this dunya with the Tawheed of Allaah 'azza wajal. This is the foundation our religion is based upon. Also be warned that Shirk does the opposite of purification. It affects the soul and leads it to be tarnished.
