Aurangzeb, seeking to crush Shivaji's rising power, strategically chose Mirza Raja Jai Singh, a skilled Rajput king, to lead the Mughal campaign. Jai Singh had to navigate loyalty, honor, and politics as he accepted the challenge. Aurangzeb provided him with an army of eighty thousand riders, along with 5,000 Pathans. Mirza Raja Jai Singh left Delhi and reached Burhanpur.
