Why you shouldn’t depend your success on other successful people
If you’re like me, you’ve been reading up on successful people like Elon Musk and Steve Jobs. What they do every morning, what they eat every Saturday. All in an effort to find that correlation to that hidden key to success. I’m going to talk about the importance that you shouldn’t always be so caught up with what they do and instead you should use it as a guidance, not a crutch. The Reason and Resolution Problem Now in all my reading the activities that I see a lot of rich people do is: Is have a detailed morning ritual. Have a to-do list and always be looking at it Always make an effort to meet a new person Read books and/or articles Now these habits are great and I follow some of them (I’ll never be a morning person, and that’s ok.) Seeing them as an absolute necessity for a ‘how to get rich guide’ is stretch. The thing is though, unless you’re rich, you might now have the most control of your time because how many of us have that luxury? It’s totally worth reading about how they go about their day though – it’s super interning nonetheless. You get new ideas and motivational pushes that these people that much different from you. But never believe that’s all it takes all you need to achieve your wealth. There really is no correlation between steady habits and getting wealth. If anything habits may lead to more opportunities that create wealth but there is no guarantee. Even the poorest people already do these things without relizing, but they’re still poor and that’s not because these ‘successful’ habits. Personal Finance will Always be Personal That’s what we’re all chasing – to be like that business mogul that scored a million dollar deal. So many people really do feel that’s the only way. Habits do effect our lives like money, but not everyone needs the same habits. That’s why I always emphasize find out what works for you then take the necessary action. When people say there’s one magic trick to have all the success you need it’s not so much a lie as it takes away the actual thing that make people successful – and that’s being resourceful. There’s so many profiles of all these successful people throughout history. There’s the feeling that if I do everything like Bill Gates then I will have the same success as Bill Gates – which is totally unrealistic and that’s because he had the resources that many people didn’t have. We don’t have thousands upon thousands of employees that will do everything we tell them to. We don’t have the serious billions of capital that he had. We can’t just say what works for Bill Gates? We have to ask what works for us. Of course, develop great habits whenever you can. If you can get up earlier in the morning and accomplish your to-do list then by all means do so. This will probably make you more happier as well as being productive. Just don’t follow any habit just because so-and-so did it. If it truly worked, we would all be rich. Focusing on your resources is what will actually make you successful. Most habits are random and oversimplified advice The biggest problem with learning other people’s habits is that they can be too arbitrary. We see it in Warren Buffett’s investing habits that everyone loves to learn about. Since he’s well acclimated as the most successful investor – there’s no wonder people love him. He says he reads 500 pages a week, which is great but that doesn’t mean anything for investors though. Reading is a great activity but just because successful people do it doesn’t mean you’ll also be successful. Buffett says most of wealth comes from passive investing which is what a lot of investors try to accomplish. The importance of this is that just because it’s oversimplified and not actually relevant to what the task is about. If you’re going to be looking at habits, you’re better off doing habits that just regular people have done. Only in a progress that matters to you and where you are with your life. That’s why niche blogs say in finance are so successful is that they bring real advice to real ordinary people like you and me. When you think about the habit of successful people – actually think about the context of that person’s background, upbringing, and available resources to them. These habits of successful people are interesting such as Steve Jobs taking a shower once a week – but that’s only out of interesting tales. These aren’t useful for your success, but acknowledge that it all comes from work, per stance, and action. It’s a lot more than just watching tv and writing in a dream journal.
