Neeson portrays Thug, a former boxer who now works as an enforcer for local mobster Charlie Conner and his aspirational son Kyle. In his working-class Boston neighbourhood, he spends his nights in solitary and his days carrying out this demanding task. After intervening to save her during a pub altercation with her violent partner, he encounters a lady just known as lady, and everything changes. He sees a doctor following a string of distressing mental crises, who diagnoses him with severe CTE and gives him a dire prognosis: he has just two years left until he is unable to take care of himself.
