Esther* was only a child when she was taken and enslaved on the lake. Day after day, for nearly a decade, she was abused and forced to do exceedingly dangerous work with no hope of returning to her family.
This week we begin a special five-part series, traveling deep into the heart of the illegal fishing industry on Lake Volta, in Ghana. With unprecedented access to Esther’s life, we will journey into the crushing reality and indomitable spirit of those who seek justice.
