‘Not a Magic Wand’: The Race for a COVID-19 Vaccine

Masks. Lockdowns. Shuttered businesses. Hospitals strained beyond capacity. Weary of the pandemic’s myriad disruptions to normal life, many Americans are pinning their hopes on a COVID-19 vaccine. But even if an effective one is developed, it won’t make the virus magically disappear.
