67 - Book of Tawheed - Sahih al-Bukhari - Abu Muadh Taqweem | Manchester

Sahih al-Bukhari – The Book of Tawheed – Lesson 67 (20/10/18) Narrated Ibn Mas'ud: While I was walking in company with the Prophet in one of the fields of Medina, the Prophet was reclining on a palm leave stalk which he carried with him. We passed by a group of Jews. Some of them said to the others, "Ask him about the spirit." The others said, "Do not ask him, lest he would say something that you hate." Some of them said, "We will ask him." So a man from among them stood up and said, 'O Abal-Qasim! What is the spirit?" The Prophet kept quiet and I knew that he was being divinely inspired. Then he said: "They ask you concerning the Spirit, Say: The Spirit; its knowledge is with my Lord. And of knowledge you (mankind) have been given only a little." (17.85) Today we covered: • An explanation into the Ruh • The narration regarding the Jews that approached the Prophet ﷺ asking him about the soul • The soul is a command from Allaah, in the decree • Allaah creates whatever He wants from whatever material, compound He wills. • Allaah has the absolute control of all creation • The Prophet ﷺ did not speak from his own desires, rather it is revelation that inspires him • We do not have the ability to see or touch the Ruh (soul) • The 2 revelations • A famous example that explains the importance of the sunnah • The various different relationships between the Quran and the sunnah o The sunnah confirms/ affirms what is in the Quran o The sunnah expands upon and clarifies in more detail that what is in the Quran i.e. breakdown o Something new: there are certain things that are not mentioned in the Quran eg. What will happen on the day of Judgement. • The Quran tells us to follow the sunnah • Imaam Ahmed said, “We cling onto the principles of the Sahaabah” • The narration of Imaam Maalik – Somebody travelled to him from far. He said, “My people have sent me to you.” He asked him around 40 questions. It was narrated that Imaam Malik said he didn’t know the answers to most of them (One narration mentions that he only answered 4 questions).
