Is Myanmar heading into another civil war?
After nearly a decade of democratic rule, a military coup in Myanmar on February 1 saw the government overthrown and a state of emergency imposed for one year. The military is now in charge of the country for the first time since 2011. The coup aligned with a general election, which the country’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s NLD party won by a landslide. The military seized power as a new session of parliament was set to open, claiming widespread voter fraud. Today on Please Explain Nathanael Cooper is joined by south-east Asia correspondent Chris Barrett to find out more about the growing unrest in Myanmar.
