NSO’s report showing decline in rural spending scrapped
In November 2019, Business Standard’s assistant editor Somesh Jha broke an important story- that India’s consumer spending had hit a 40 year low. The report quoted the National Statistical Commission’s official survey data which reported a fall in consumer spending in 2017-18. Fast forward to February 2020 a it has come to fore that the Indian government would not be making this very important survey report public.
