Episode 25: Blair in Tripoli

Adam Curtis's documentary Hypernormalization suggests that the Iranians, instead of the Libyans, were behind the bombing of the Pam Am flight over Lockerbie, Scotland. Therefore Danny tracks down the story behind the UK's rapprochement with Libya.   British intelligence helped Qaddafi apprehend his political enemies. In return, British Petroleum (BP) won contracts to exploit Libyan oil. Qaddafi also handed over two intelligence officers for trial for the Lockerbie bombing. A few years later, to protect their investments, BP successfully pressured the UK government to free the convicted Libyan officer from a Scottish prison on compassionate grounds. This episode ends with a reading of a conversation between former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and Qaddafi during the Arab Spring.
