Observations - Surviving Prejudice and Pandemic in Pakistan - 27 May, 2020
In this weekly Observations, Kamran Choudhry, a Lahore-based journalist, explains the trauma of religious minorities in Pakistan who live outside the social mainstream. Conservative Muslim groups and political parties that support them continue to assert that Pakistan is an Islamic nation, and non-Muslims have no right to enjoy the state's protection. The non-Muslims are even denied food aid during the Covid-19 lockdown. The sectarian idea has marginalized the non-Muslims -- Hindus, Christians, and Ahmadiyya people, who together form a negligible 3 percent of Pakistan's 210 million people.
