0017: The FAT TRUTH about VEGETABLE OILS and Saturated FAT: It WILL Suprise you!

In this episode, Dr. Thomas Hemingway MD will discuss both the origins of Vegetable Oils and trans fats and though they only came into recent human history in the last 100 years or so and have correlated with an uptick in the incidence in CAD (Coronary Artery Disease) despite the initial recommendations from USDA and AHA (American Heart Association) to consume these "heart healthy" oils from the propaganda of Proctor and Gamble and others as well as the skewed research of Ancel Keys whom set out to demonize saturated fats though they have been in our diets for 1000s of years and oddly enough never seemed to cause heart disease in the many thousands of preceding years and use in our ancestors.

He will discuss:
--difference between saturated and poly unsaturated fats (PUFAs) and how they are used in the body
--history of vegetable oils such and then the hydrogenated ones like Crisco and their processing is anything but "natural"
--benefits of saturated fat
--harm of PUFAs and trans fats which can lead to oxidation and increased inflammation and then chronic illnesses such as heart disease
--which oil to AVOID (canola, cottonseed, corn oil, sunflower oils, vegetable oils, soybean oil, grapeseed oil, walnut oil, peanut oil, sesame oil--these are generally ultra processed and unnaturally manufactured and have a very high ration of omega-6 PUFAs which are more inflammatory than their omega-3 counterparts
--which oils are BETTER  to cook with and consume (generally speaking those that are simply pressed (not highly processed) and have much lower omega-6 content such as pure extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, palm oil (provided sustainably sourced) and of course natural fat such as butter and beef tallow and lard.
