Coronavirus news, updates, hotspots and information for 06-25-2020 COVID-19 AM Alert

This is Coronavirus 411, the latest COVID-19 info and new hotspots… Just the facts… for Thursday June 25th, 2020.   The U.S. reported 38,173 new cases yesterday, the most since the pandemic began. The numbers were driven by large increases in Texas 6,584, Florida 5,511, California 4,850, Arizona 1,810, Georgia 1,713, North Carolina 1,437 and South Carolina 1,284. With the continued rise in infection, many Governor’s who had initially resisted harsher restrictions are now implementing them. Nevada will require a face mask in all public places where social distancing cannot be observed. Washington state has also made masks mandatory. Utah will require masks in state run buildings, including liquor stores and allow local governments to implement stricter measures. The Governor of Texas is encouraging residents to stay home and relayed the state is “looking at greater restrictions”.  Over 1.4 million first time unemployment claims were filed last week. New York, New Jersey and Connecticut will require people arriving from states where the virus is on the rise, to quarantine for 14 days upon entry. The New York City Marathon, scheduled for November, has been canceled. Disneyland, in California, has indefinitely delayed their July 17th reopening. Hawaii will ease their mandatory 14-day quarantine starting August 1st, as long as visitors test negative for the virus within 72 hours of their arrival.  A senior Afghan official relayed there is a suspected 60 to 90% infection rate among the Afghanistan security forces, reports The Washington Post. More than 100,000 residents of Victoria Australia will undergo testing, as health workers go door to door. Cases in Victoria make up the majority of the countries 270 active infections.   Canada will allow travel among the 4 Atlantic Provinces without quarantine, starting July 3rd.
