Chris Mavinga and Jon Champion join Footy Talks Live
The upcoming Florida tournament was today’s hot topic, with the crew counting down the days to MLS’ return, and KJ voicing disbelief that the eventual winners may leave without a trophy!
Toronto FC’s Chris Mavinga spoke about the squad's mixed feelings for the plan, and how he hopes to be drawn against Montreal Impact, a club who had the chance to sign him before his move to TFC.
Mavinga compared life on lockdown to a preview of post-football retirement, and discussed how training with the likes of Gerrard, Carragher and Torres at Liverpool helped him become the player he is today.
Tuning in from the English countryside, ESPN’s Jon Champion explained how lockdown life has meant more exercise and cycling during the day, but also more alcohol in the evening(!).
Champion broke down what makes a great broadcasting partnership, and described working with current co-host Tyler Twellman and the infamous Ron Atkinson ‘back in the day.’
The crew quizzed Champion on the quality and competitiveness of the MLS, as well as the merits of fake crowd noise and cut out crowds in the current empty top flight stadiums.
