John Demos, professor of history at Yale University and author of “The Heathen School: A Story of Hope and Betrayal in the Age of the Early Republic”, discusses the doomed attempt in the early 19th century to promote the spread of “Christian civilization” at a special school for indigenous youths in Connecticut.
