What’s a good indication of behaviour change?

We can get all excited about the survey satisfaction ratings as much as we like. But we all know this is just an ego game, it has nothing to do with real results and moving people to helpful action.  On the other hand, we put pressure on single interventions to turn around a sales quarter or to increase employee retention - like we are some kind of gods that can predictably control outcomes.  What I suggest is something in the middle. Something measurable, meaningful and something that suggests a long term view of where your interactive story or any learning intervention fits in the road to behaviour change.
