Maureen Paley
With artists such as Wolfgang Tillmans and Gillian Wearing exhibiting at her pioneering space in east London, gallerist Maureen Paley has become a key figure in the art world. Raised in New York by Anglophile parents, she moved to London in the late 1970s to chase her love of the London music scene, hanging out with Pam Hogg and Vivienne Westwood and going to The Clash and Sex Pistols concerts while also attending the Royal College of Art. By the early 1980s she had opened her gallery in east London and over the years has seen it grow into an international-facing name in the art world that has nurtured an impressive roster of artists. She sits down with host Danielle Radojcin to look back at her life and career and talk about some of the things that inspire her.
