Katie Clithero - Clean Eats from a Flithy Mouth
PAIN, PASSION PURPOSE. Date nights in lockdown, anorexia, exercise disorder, suicide, IVF, hip replacements and tipsy time! Katie is a writer, mother of three, wife and part bionic woman working to find a way to balance her various roles while living with purpose, passion and always plenty of humour. She is the mouth behind Clean Eats From a Filthy Mouth, which initially began as a way to share healthy food ideas and have some tongue in cheek fun and has now grown to a wonderful community of supportive, fun loving humans. A dream Katie is incredibly proud to have made a reality. She has navigated a rollercoaster of experiences that have taught her that life can be brutal and beautiful, and often those things are inextricably intertwined. We need to find a way for them to coexist, to find light in the darkness and to grow and learn from the challenges and pain that we have to face. Katie developed an eating disorder as a teen and that lasted into her twenties and later developed into an excessive exercise disorder. Although she healed from it, she also know it will always be a part of her psyche to some extent. The physical punishment she put her body through led to fertility issues in her 30s when she had to process the fact her body was failing at it’s most basic physiological purpose. She says she was very lucky to have two beautiful children through IVF. Katie became part bionic with total hip replacements 38 and 40 years of age. As someone who had for so long constructed an image based on physical strength, fitness and capability this was a massive blow to her self esteem and identity. She was forced to confront past demons and redefine herself, given a chance to heal, her body was finally allowed a chance to function properly, she regained fertility and had a wonderful surprise baby as a result.
