Could Australia’s Drought be Ending?

Our farmers have been going through hell with one of the worst droughts in Australia’s history. But with above average rainfall expected for winter, could the drought be breaking? Joining us today we speak to Dr Andrew Watkins (Head of Long-range Forecasts at the Bureau of Meteorology), James Nalder (a young cattle farmer from Coonamble in North West NSW) and Wayne Dunford (a Parkes farmer and the chair of the NSW Farmers Drought Taskforce).

In today's news headlines:

  • Australian Black Lives Matter protests to draw tens of thousands tomorrow
  • U.S. latest: George Floyd memorial held as violence subsides
  • Travel snapshot: Aussies can now register their interest in July New Zealand holiday
  • “I’ve just reseeded that!”: Guy tells PM, reporters to get off his lawn

In today's Briefing we ask: How much of Australia's food is sourced locally? Has the drought broken? Will the drought break? How do measure drought? Can we grow some crops in drought affected regions this winter/spring? What is required to guarantee water long-term? What is the impact on farmers?
