It may inhibit fertility, sex drive, as well as having immunosuppressive activity. Valerian officinalis works through GABA-ergic compounds and could be just as efficacious as benzodiazepines as a hypnotic. It should be taken at least 2 hours before bed. Ginkgo biloba is a cognition-enhancing drug that may prevent cognitive decline and treat antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction. It inhibits platelet-activating factor and should be avoided in patients on anticoagulants and before surgery.
