Red Skelton

If you were a fan of old-time radio or early television then you’ll have fond memories of Richard “Red” Skelton. After many guest appearances on radio, he hosted his own show until 1957. Red made his television premiere in 1951. Despite high ratings the “Red Skelton Hour” was canceled in 1970. The network said that they needed to attract a younger audience. His last year on TV was 1971 on NBC. His multiple talents included starring roles in 19 movies and painting. His clown prints and lithographs earned him two and a half million dollars a year. He also made many personal appearances, including several here in Milwaukee. Red will talk about his career, the rumor that he was showing porn movies on a wall across from his house and how the “Pledge of Allegiance” recording came about. If you haven’t heard it, find it here.
