Welcome to Culpeper, VA, "A Great American Main Street." Named "The Prettiest Town in Virginia" by Architectural Digest, Culpeper is a bedroom community of Northern Virginia and the Washington DC area. The original town was surveyed in 1759 by a young George Washington. Mother's Day was established in honor of one of Culpeper's citizens, Ann Jarvis. Although significant earthquakes are rare in the region, several buildings in the downtown area were damaged during a quake in August, 2011.
