#1 This is the most important part of your skincare routine… and it’s NOT what you think

--- Transcript ---I get asked a lot. What's the most important thing in the skincare routine. What should I focus on that will give me the best results. In today's episode I'll tell you exactly what it is.  So the big question is this what do people with great skin do differently to have that. How did they achieve great skin without using celebrity beauticians or spending a paycheck to re-stalk their beauty cabinet. What are your mindsets their approaches. The rituals the products and tools they use. That is the question and this forecast will give you the answers. My name is Damyan Nikolov and welcome to skincare secrets.  Regardless of your age skin type goals the most important part of your skincare routine is having a routine. Last year I did a survey and I asked people what's your number one goal for your skin. And there was an overwhelming consensus. I want clear healthy skin as simple as that. The biggest number of people had that goal and then I also asked - What's your number one struggle with your skin? And funny enough it wasn't wrinkles dark spots eye bags etc.. It was I can't stick to a routine. So people can find time they forget they just can't make themselves do it.  So everyone knows what they want but most of us can't find a way to take action and do what's needed to achieve that. It's like most news resolutions all start working out. I'll quit smoking I'll lose weight. I'll learn how to cook and most of the time nothing happens. You don't get your resolutions. You're kind of disappointed but not really because you're never truly committed. So if you want to make progress in life you have to look at things differently. You've got to say I need to take control of this process not just make a wish lists, call it resolutions and hope it comes together.  So the question is what does it take to make a lasting change in your life not just make a wish list and hope it happens.... Real lasting change. There are five things that are part of every lasting change. And today we'll go over them. First you need to have a very clear picture a vision of what is it that you really want. Not a half picture. Like I'll cut down on sugar or I'll watch less TV. I'll waste less time on social media. The problem with these is that they're not inspiring. They're not telling you what you'll get.  They're telling you what you're not going to get. I hear similar things when people talk about skincare. I want less lines I want to get rid of those dark spots and it's really hard to push forward like that. When you focused on what you don't want. A vision is about what you're here to create a vision that really works is something that excites you that you have passion about because if you want something to pull you forward you have to have passion for it. It's really hard to push yourself. Push requires willpower and willpower is a very limited resource. It never lasts. And pull is something that draws you forward. So how much you stick to a plan comes down to how passionate are you about the things you want to achieve. It comes down to emotional intensity. So our vision has to be really compelling. Number two you've got to have strong enough motivation know the real reasons why you want what you want. So you can pull through when when the going gets tough. That's what's missing for most people. They don't have strong enough reasons to to help them pull through when the inevitable challenges and setbacks come up. And when you're when you're dying to pass out in bed but your makeup is still on when you've got no time and you haven't worked out still. These reasons can be positive or negative. If I don't do this this is what's going to cost me. Or if I do it this is what I will gain in my life. You need the reasons first to find the answers. If you have strong enough reasons to push through tough times you will find the answers you will do things others don't. Instead of collapsing you'll find a way. And if you don't succeed on the first try you'll come at it again and again from different angles till you move to the next level. So keep asking why. To find the ultimate deepest reasons inside. It will take four five six seven times asking yourself for example why do you want to lose weight so I can fit in my favorite outfit. Why do you want to fit in the outfit so I can look good at this wedding in three months that we're going to. And why do you want to look good. So my partner looks at me the way they did on our first date so I can be an inspiration for my kids. Now that's a strong reason. Number three you've got to focus on it and feel it every day. Think about something in your life you wanted really bad could have been a career move or a relationship or a car and you were really obsessed with it. You wanted it so bad it stayed top of mind and it was there every day. You envisioned it. You saw it and you started attracting people attracting situations attracting opportunities. And it came together and you didn't have a complete plan for how you're going to get there but you're so focused on it that your brain started noticing things that would get you there and it started filling the blanks. What happened in your brain as it got trained on what to notice in the noise around so that it can fill those blanks.  And when you have a clear vision and compelling reasons and you focused on it enough it becomes a part of you. It's like when you buy that piece of clothing and all of a sudden you see so many people around where the same piece of clothing it was always there. But what happened is your brain now knows it's part of you. It's part of your life part of your world and it starts noticing it.  So ultimately if you want to have a lasting change with your skin or anything else in life it's about shifting your identity. And that's the fourth thing. And what does that really mean lasting change is different from a goal you don't always get your goals but you always stay true to who you are. An identity is a standard you always meet. So listen to those statements. I will quit smoking or I will lose weight in saying these things you identify yourself as a smoker. You identify yourself as someone who's overweight and one of the most powerful human forces is this force to stay consistent with our identity and how we define ourselves. It's just a matter of time before you go back to smoking or before you go back to your original weight. What if instead you said I'm a runner I'm an athlete not necessarily an Olympic athlete or a competitive athlete but an athlete. Now an athlete thinks - How much time do I need to recover so they may take one or two days a week off with the rest of the time they train. Whereas a person who wants to lose weight. Their goal is to go to the gym three times a week but really two times is OK. And if you only went once this week you're still working out kind of. So shifting your identity is really powerful because once you do it the behavior that comes with it, it's not gradual it happens immediately and notice it doesn't take willpower anymore because we made our goal part of who we are in human beings absolutely follow through on who we believe we are.  And some of you may say but I'm not that person. I'm not an athlete. When did you define yourself that way. Most people chose certain believes a long time ago and they have now become the limiting factor. The glass ceiling. So I ask you to look at what part of your identity is holding you back from achieving your goal. What's the place where you've got that self-imposed limitation. And ask yourself. When did I accept to be that way and you may not even see it as a limitation you may see it as just who I am in that respect. Very often we decide to be a certain way just to please someone or be accepted by someone. But it's not necessarily who we are and when it comes to great looking skin. We all know some people who have it. Chances are these people have a morning and evening ritual they follow like clockwork. They're not less busy. It's just for them it's a must have it's not a nice to have. They went from I'll try a couple things on my face to I'm in charge I'm a skincare boss. They raise the standard they shifted their identity and they stayed true to their new identity. So dig those three words and live by them shift your identity.  So the fifth and final step to get a lasting change in your life is to back up your identity with rituals. Rituals are the engines that move you forward every day. When you break down this huge task into small little manageable pieces you do every day. Those become easy to achieve and you pick up momentum and it's easy to succeed and you're not overwhelmed. You have these winds day after day. Rituals define us all the rituals in your life are the precursor to the result that we get all the results in our life are coming from the rituals we do.  For example if you're dealing with acne you have very different skin care rituals then if you have a clear skin and you just want to maintain it healthy. If you have a great passionate relationship you have a very different ritual of how you come home compared to if you have a bad relationship and success and failure are not those big events that happen all of a sudden failure comes from missing all the little things from forgetting to say I'm sorry to your partner failure from to put.. failure to push yourself to the things you don't want and one day some bad thing happens and now we blend that event but that event comes because we failed all the little things in success is not an overnight thing either. It never is. It's having a vision that really excites you.  Knowing the real reasons why you want to achieve it and turning on the rituals the engines that moving forward day after day to achieve that vision. So when you look at someone with great skin and you say Wow you look amazing. You gotta remember people get admired in public for what they work really hard to achieve in private. So here's my homework for you my assignment. If you choose to accept one. If you want to move from a conversation to taking action first write down what your skin is like right now and be real specific. Just write the truth where you are.  Second what are the rituals that got you here. How you sleep, how you hydrate, how you use makeup skincare price how consistently you use them or not. Those rituals lead you to where you are today. Whether you're happy with the results or not.  And the third step is what is it that you want. What's your vision and be specific make it compelling figure out the real reasons why you want it and the last step is what are the rituals that will help you get there.  What will you do differently in be specific. Remember willpower doesn't last. But rituals are forever. If you want a new skin a new glow a new face. Don't wait until January 1st. Start right now. Start today and begin to see how easy it is. And once you mastered the self-discipline in one area of your life you'll start doing it in other areas too. That's all for today. I'll see you next time. Till then. Live strong, live with passion.
