Risk Assessment in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and Right Heart Failure: Individualizing Therapy Podcast

In this podcast episode, Dr. Raymond L. Benza and Dr. Alanna Morris will discuss early diagnosis, effective monitoring, and new treatment approaches to ensure timely treatment and to optimize the management of patients with PAH and RHF.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive and life-threatening condition for which early diagnosis and treatment are crucial. However, early recognition of PAH can be challenging because the disease does not become clinically manifest until pulmonary vascular disease is advanced. Right heart failure (RHF) is the most common cause of death in PAH patients, and newer treatments are available that can reduce right ventricular afterload, improve exercise capacity, and improve quality of life. In addition, clinicians may not have an algorithm for PAH management and may be unclear about PAH treatment goals, management strategies, and monitoring for disease activity.
