21. @lucy_nipple: Get Involved With The Nipple Project

Having nipples that don't fade away is such an important part of the healing process for Breast Cancer survivors as it can help rebuild self-esteem and confidence. That's why Lucy Thompson started the charity called "The Nipple Innovation Project" - an organization aimed at helping fund permanent nipple tattoos for women. Here, Lucy gives us a little more insight into the organization and offers ways that you can show support.  Check it out :) Meet Lucy Thompson: "I started off my career as a traditional tattoo artist in 2013. Very early on I took an interest in scar cover up tattoos, I loved how they brought technical challenges for me which produced huge life changing rewards for the wearer. I knew from the tattoos I wore myself how empowering body art could be. I had the opportunity to offer a nipple tattoo to my auntie who had had a mastectomy and sadly had a traumatic hospital areola tattoo experience that left her unable to look at herself in the mirror. Her tattoo had faded and caused further scarring, leaving her feeling less of a woman than she deserved. With time she trusted me to replace the missing part of her and I was honoured to see her flourish a grow. It inspired me to want to offer this treatment to anyone and everyone who needed it, in 2018 The Nipple Innovation Project was born.  The Nipple Innovation Project is the UKs first Cancer Tattoo charity dedicated to empowering breast cancer survivors with Free 3D nipple tattoos that don’t fade away. Through NIP we also provide a directory of paramedical artists in the UK so breast cancer survivors have easy access to this healing service. We aspire to continue to empower and dignify breast cancer survivors through healing mastectomy tattoos and emotional support".
