Trading Places - Part 1 (with Kat Whitacre and Joshua Martin)
Surprise! The Hold-Up is back a week early! Today’s guests — Kat Whitacre and Joshua Martin — are the melancholic geniuses behind Uncomfortable Brunch, a film series held at the Enzian theater in Orlando at which you can enjoy a delicious morning meal while simultaneously watching a grim, cheerless movie in a room full of squirming strangers. It’s a blast! This coming Sunday, January 3, UB will be screening Come and See, the bleakest goddamn war movie ever committed to film. Please check it out! As for the podcast, Kat and Josh and I are watching 1983’s Trading Places, a movie Kat picked despite full well knowing that the director had just basically murdered a couple of children on the set of his previous movie. In her defense, she totally didn’t remember the blackface scene in this one. Fortunately, I’m there to sensitively remind her. In addition to that particular bit of problematic chitchat, this conversation contains a lot of other talk that might be considered triggering to someone who isn’t quite as dead inside as we are. So... listen with caution. And welcome back!
